Decolonized Minds & Cinema Africa

At Ventilator Cinema, located on the second floor of the iconic OT301 cultural center in Amsterdam, we’ve been hosting a Decolonized Minds film screening and discussion series — a space where cinema, history, resistance, and identity come together in conversation. These evenings are part of an ongoing effort to explore colonial histories, anti‑colonial thought, and diasporic perspectives through film and collective dialogue, guided by the belief that storytelling is a powerful tool for understanding our world and ourselves.

Other editions of Decolonized Minds have included special screenings such as the Dutch premiere of Decolonizing Minds (2024) — the first feature film about Frantz Fanon, the revolutionary psychiatrist and anti‑colonial thinker whose life and work reshaped global understandings of race, colonial power, and liberation. This screening was paired with a post‑film talk and discussion that brought Fanon’s insights into dialogue with contemporary struggles and experiences
